Bard PowerPort lawsuit
The Bard PowerPort lawsuit involves numerous lawsuits against Bard Access Systems Inc. and Becton Dickinson, the manufacturers of the PowerPort implantable port catheter, alleging design and manufacturing defects leading to injuries. These lawsuits claim the PowerPort is prone to fracturing, migration, and infection, causing serious complications for patients.
Fracture and Migration:
Lawsuits claim the polyoxymethylene (POM) material used in the PowerPort is susceptible to degradation, leading to fractures and migration of the catheter within the body.
Infection:
The devices are alleged to be more prone to infection due to defects in the catheter design or material.
Blood Clots and Other Complications:
Injuries include thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and other complications.
Failure to Warn:
Plaintiffs claim the manufacturers failed to adequately warn patients and healthcare providers about the potential risks associated with the device.
