Raleigh accident statistics show increasing risk

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) records statistics on vehicle accidents throughout the state. In the years 2011 through 2014, Raleigh had 65,575 total vehicle crashes, 98 of them fatal, and 12,081 that produced nonfatal injuries. In those years, the risk of a vehicle accident in and around Raleigh increased steadily, as our city rose in the rankings from the 15th most dangerous with a population above 10,000 people to 14th, 13th and 11th place.

  • Truck accidents — Statewide, there were 253,199 crashes involving commercial vehicles in 2014. Of those, 1,181 produced fatalities and 71,025 produced nonfatal injuries.
