Summer 2022 is in full effect, and what’s better than finding some awesome activities that your whole family can enjoy? Well, we did just that – below you can find our list of some of the highest-rated family-friendly summer activities throughout Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Summer Activities in Virginia:
Virginia Air and Space Science Center: The Virginia Air and Space Science Center is truly one of the perfect summer activities for families that are looking to spend a few hours lost in space! You can’t go wrong with an IMAX movie, life-sized planes, and interactive space exhibits. They even offer summer camps, birthday parties, community outreach, and don’t forget the Cosmic Café!

Fort Chiswell Animal Park: The Fort Chiswell Animal Park is home to beautiful animals from over six of the world’s seven continents – how cool! This interactive zoo encourages visitors to touch, and feed, many of their animals. A petting zoo is certainly in the top tier of summer activities and this one houses deer and llamas, but the real treat here is the Safari Tour Bus which takes visitors on an incredible adventure where they can spot a few zebras, camels, and buffalo.

Kayak Nature Tours: Since 1996, Kayak Nature Tours has offered guided kayaking trips in both Virginia and North Carolina. They offer half-day and full-day tours throughout a variety of truly breathtaking inland waterways, and between May and October, they offer dolphin watching in the Atlantic Ocean. No prior experience is needed to join, but if you’d like to practice as a family beforehand, you can rent kayaks by the day, as well. Summer activities are always better when dolphins are involved!

Carowinds Amusement Park: No list of summer activity ideas is complete without the famous Carowinds. Carowinds is a 407-acre amusement park, that’s located right by Interstate 77 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The best part of Carowinds is that it’s not only one of the coolest amusement parks around, but it’s also a water park. With world-class rides, and the finest in Carolina cuisine, Carowinds is a must for locals and tourists in the summer.

Durham Bulls Baseball Game: The Durham Bulls are the minor-league affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, and they play their home games in Downtown Durham, North Carolina in a beautiful stadium that’s surrounded by high-quality restaurants and quaint boutiques – not to mention the fact that they have an in-stadium brewery! If you think that’s cool, you’ll love it when one of their players hits a homerun and the giant bull scoreboard lights up and blows smoke. I mean, hey – we all know baseball is one of the best summer activities, whether you’re watching it or playing it!

The Greensboro Science Center: The Greensboro Science Center offers plenty of fun with a little hint of learning! They offer an aquarium, zoo, interactive museum, and a truly unique set of new aerial obstacles, zip-lines, and treetop activities. They’ve made sure to make the courses friendly to children, while keeping a few that can challenge their parents – prepare to have a blast!

Summer Activities in South Carolina:
Settlemyre Planetarium: Located in the north-central region of South Carolina, this planetarium is located inside of the Museum of York County. The fully digital, full-dome theater offers many the opportunity to gaze above and learn about a variety of scientific topics. Visitors will watch as they learn how to seek out constellations, moon positions, planets and even the Milky Way! The Settlemyre also hosts various specialty events for holidays, like Halloween.

Alligator Adventure: Located in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina right near Barefoot Landing is Alligator Adventure! Alligator Adventure is known as one of South Carolina’s most outstanding attractions for locals and tourists alike. The reptile facility allows guests to get up-close with tons of alligators, frogs, lizards, snakes, and tortoises. The animal park also has tons of non-reptiles to gaze at as well, like bobcats, flamingos, and more! Daily shows, live alligator feedings and snake handling – what’s not to love!
